Wir freuen uns sehr, nach RISE (2008/09, mit Simon Hemmer) und
NEW GRASS (2011) die dritte Ausstellung SIRENS des Künstlers Jack Holden zu präsentieren. Der in Berlin lebende Künstler orientiert seine Arbeit an den zentralen philosophischen Fragen nach der menschlichen Figur und Spiritualität. In dieser Ausstellung SIRENS findet Holden radikaler als bisher zur Abstraktion. Auf kleinen Holzplatten entstehen abstrakte Formen. Vor diesen Bildern glaubt sich der Betrachter vielleicht mit einem Tiefseegeschöpf konfrontiert, einem Raumschiff, einem futuristischen Gebäude, einem Relikt aus der Vergangenheit – in der Tat steht er vor einem sorgfältig konstruierten Block von Farben, die vermutlich zusammen den menschlichen Geist verkörpern. Berlin-based artist Jack Holden (* 1979) is known for basing his work on key philosophical questions dealing with the human figure and spirituality. In this exhibition, ‘Sirens’, Holden has taken a different approach to his work and turned to abstraction. On small wood panels abstract shapes emerge, with no sign of a human figure . When one is faced with these paintings, many questions arise for the viewer. Are we looking at a deep sea creature, a spacecraft, a futuristic building, a relic from the past, or are we indeed facing a carefully constructed block of colours, that together embody the human spirit. In Untitled I, 2012, we see a shape that is made up of triangles. The muted colours and the delicate application of paint underline the foreground shape so that it glows iridescently behind the night sky. The motif that bonds all these works are Triangles, which repeatedly appear and make up these abstract forms. The overwhelming feeling when viewing these works are of the sensitive and subtle use of colours and how these are integral in creating the powerful emotions that these paintings evoke. |
